Raise funds for the club the Easyfundraising way
Just a reminder of a great way in which all of you can raise funds for the club at no cost to yourselves:
Have you heard about easyfundraising yet? It’s the easiest way to help raise money for Shettleston Harriers! If you already shop online with retailers such as Amazon, Argos, John Lewis, Comet, iTunes, eBay or HMV, then we need you to sign up for free to raise money while you shop!
So how does it work?
You shop directly with the retailer as you would normally, but if you sign up to http://www.easyfundraising.org.uk/shettlestonharriers for free and use the links on the easyfundraising site to take you to the retailer, then a percentage of whatever you spend comes directly to the club at no extra cost to yourself.
How much can you raise?
Spend £100 with M&S online and you raise £5 for us. £100 spent with Amazon raises £2.50, £100 with WH Smith puts £2.00 in our pocket and so on. There's over 2,000 retailers on their site, and some of the donations can be as much as 15% of your purchase.
Save money too!
easyfundraising is FREE to use plus you'll get access to hundreds of exclusive discounts and voucher codes, so not only will you be helping us, you’ll be saving money yourself. As an example a certain club member in desperate need of new furniture due to the havoc inflicted by two kids and a dog saved 20% at Habitat recently - and raised £30 for the club too!!
Raise money as you search!
And that’s not the only way to raise money. Are you one of the 6.4m people that use a search engine every day? If so, you can raise money for Shettleston Harriers while you search?
http://shettlestonharriers.easysearch.org.uk combines the results of several search engines such as Yahoo!, Bing and Ask to ensure you can always find what you’re looking for. More records tumble on another busy weekend, 12-13 June
Scottish Schools Championships -Friday 11th & Saturday 12th June
Shettleston Harriers were major winners at the Scottish Schools Championships at Grangemouth on Friday & Saturday .The major prize of the day went to multiple Scottish /British Schools Champion Ahmed Hassan for his record breaking run in the Group C 1500m when he ran faster than the British record when running 4.01.33 over 1500m. The Eric Liddell Award is given to the best performance of the Championships and we believe Ahmed is the youngest ever winner. It will be a great night for Ahmed when he is presented with his trophy on Tuesday evening at Shawlands Academy. Not happy with just winning the 1500m, Ahmed also won the 800m in a fast 2.01.37
Nicola Mackay and Paddy O'Donnell of St Aloysius College both won Gold when winning the Shot ( Group C ) and Pole Vault ( Group B). Nicola smashed her PB by nearly one metre, whilst Paddy held his nerve to win on count back.
School of Sport Athlete Ingles Lumguankenda leapt to victory in the Long Jump ( Group D ), recording 5.25m to complete the gold medal haul for the club .
Laura Penrice had the gold medal in her grasp only to be overtaken close to the line in the Girls Group C 1500m, when running for Dumfries High School. Another School of Sport athlete Mohammed Ahmed finished 2nd in the Group C Long Jump (5.80) to add to the Silver his fellow school athlete Lee Wilson gained in the Group A 800m(1.58.11). The final silver of the championships was Rachel Scott of Craigholme School when finishing second in the Group D Shot ( 8.88 ).
Five Bronze medals were also won over a range of events. It was good to see Andrew Dearie on the road to recovery after suffering over the last few months when securing a PB in the Group A 5000m (15.52.26). Fellow Smithycroft athlete Nicky Stone launched the hammer to a respectable distance of 53.31m.
Middle distance duo Myrtle Breckenridge ( 800m - 2.24.15 )of Shawlands Academy and Bishopbriggs High athlete Stella Winters ( 1500m -4.49.10 ) also came away happy from the championships with their bronze medals.

Scottish Half Marathon Championships -Dunfermline 13th June
Tsegezab Woldemichael blew away the opposition in the Home Countries event included in the Dunfermline Half Marathon. Running the fastest time in Scotland this year ( 64.47 ) he broke clear of his club mate Tsegai Tewelde with two miles to go. Tsegai - running his first ever half -recorded 65.09 to finish one and half minutes clear of English runner Tony Lambert ( 66.37 ). With Paul Sorrie in 10th position ( 70.22 ) the club easily retained their National title. Such was the strength of the club they would have beaten the winning English team in the International race. Report and Results.
Polaroid Race -Vale of Leven 13th June
In the final race of the series Amanuel Hagos led the Shettleston team to victory when he won the race ( 30.07) from club mate Mike Deason. Scottish U/20/U 23 Championships & Young Athletes 3×800m Scottish Championships Grangemouth 13th June
No rest for our young athletes today when they were involved in the National 800m Relay Championships. With one gold and two silvers it was a successful day . The U/13 girls team of Amy Harkins, Jill Cherry and Casey Alexander were just caught before the line by Falkirk. The gold medal went to the girls U/15 team of Myrtle Breckenridge ,Laura Penrice and Mhairi Hendry when they won by 100m from Giffnock North. Even a final leg of 1min 57 sec leg by Ahmed Hassan in the U/15 boys team was not enough for the boys to beat VP Glasgow team for the gold medal. The team of C.Drummond, R.Flannigan and Ahmed Hassan helped the club to their most successful day ever at these championships. Photos in Gallery.
Two Medals by Sean Watson over 400m ( Gold -48.50 ) and 200m ( Bronze -22.57 ) along with victory by Matthew Gillespie ( 5000m -14.38.44 ) in the U/23 Championships rounded off a very busy day for the club . Report and Results.
