The club are sad to announce the death of Honorary Life Member Tom Fletcher. Tom was 82 years old and had been ill for some time.

Tom has been a member of the club since he was a teenager in the early forties and competed in cross country and road races.

Tom also had a long career running as a veteran athlete and made a major contribution to the development of veteran running in Scotland. He was a founder member and honorary life member of the Scottish Veteran Harriers Club and served as Vice President of "the Vets", as they were known.

Tom served our club as Secretary for three years in the seventies and for two years as Treasurer in the eighties. Tom also officiated on behalf of the club and was a Grade One Timekeeper. He was a key member of the timekeeping team at the Commonwealth Games in Edinburgh in 1986 and at many International Events that took place in Scotland during the time he was officiating.

Tom's widow Sheila was also a timekeeper and founder member of Shettleston Harriers Ladies in the nineteen sixties. On behalf of the club we offer our sincerest condolences to Sheila at this sad time.
