Shettleston athletes were involved in great numbers in the Inter-area event staged within the BUPA International event in Edinburgh this weekend.Running on  the snow-covered course tested all the athletes.
In the U/13 girls event Myrtle Breckenridge in finishing 14th helped the west team to victory.
Ahmed Hassan  who has just recently returned to training after an operation finished 12th and had the thrill of speaking to his hero and compatriot Mo Farah at the event.
Best placed young athlete was Stella Winters who finished 7th.
 
In the Senior event, Shettleston athletes accounted for 25% of the field with 7 running for the West team and 2 for the Scottish Universities team.Surprise winners of the team competition were  the Universities with a solid contribution from junior Matthew Gillespie in 15th position.Top Shettleston finisher was Tsegai Tewelde ( 11th ) who just out sprinted Tewoldeberhan Mengisteab (12th ) in the race won by Joseph Ebuya of Kenya.
 
Another close finish saw Jethro Lennox  ( 22) just holding off Tsegezeab Woldemichael (23 ). Other athletes in the race were Lachlan Oates (32), Martin Graham (33), Thomas Fay (38) and Paul Sorrie (39).
