Hill Running
Oleg takes another long race win at the Ochil 2000s, 28 August
Tom smashes course record and team win at Glenshee, 8 August
It was a great day for the club at the Glenshee 9 - last hill race in the 2010 Run4It SHR Championship - as Tom Owens won and smashed the course record into the bargain and we also took the team prize. Other club results were Oleg Chepelin (6th and would have been higher but for a blowout in his shoes!), Dave Cummins (9th), Matt Sullivan (14th), Casey Morgan (16th), Stephen Winter (30th) and Bill Breckenridge (35th).
Chepelin is Top Dollar, 31 July
Oleg Chepelin, only days after competing for Great Britain in the World University Orienteering Championships, was highest placed Shettleston athlete in the British and Scottish championship hill race at Dollar, finishing 15th and 4th Scot. Casey Morgan, deciding to race at the last minute after being denied entry to the Bolton Ironman, ran strongly to finish 53rd, and with Stephen Winter close behind in 56th and Bill Breckenridge packing well for 67th, the team finished a very creditable second behind Scottish champions Carnethy. TJ Pringle ran well to finish 113th and Malcolm Patterson, believing that a holiday at altitude rather than altitude training was good preparation, was somewhat further back in 132nd.
Matt Sullivan gains Scottish vest
Congratulations to Matt Sullivan whose great form recently (including a third place in the Scottish Hill Runners Championship race at Tom Na Bat last weekend) has been rewarded by gaining his first Scottish vest. He finished an excellent 16th in the Snowdon International Race on Saturday(July 24th). The race was won by 18-year old fellow Scot, Robbie Simpson (Deeside) and to cap a great day for Scotland, Catriona Buchanan (Ochil) was first woman.

Meanwhile, Tom Owens finished a fantastic sixth in a top class field at the World Skyrunning Championships at Giir di Mont in Italy.

Team victory at Glen Rosa, 19 June
There were mixed fortunes for Shettleston's hillrunners at Glen Rosa on Saturday. Fiona Maxwell (see photo) just missed out on an individual win, after battling all the way round the long, rough 20km course with former Scottish champion Jill Mykura. The men packed well and took the team prize, courtesy of Dave Cummins (7th), Matt Sullivan (8th) and Henry Blake (12th). The race was the third event in the 2010 Run4It Scottish Hill Runners Championship, where the team competition is based on four runners and despite a strong run by Stephen Winter in 24th, the club missed out on victory by just one point to Carnethy. Unluckiest man of the day was Bill Maxwell, who missed a turn on the final descent, which added several minutes to his race and dropped him to 62nd.
